What is proteomics?
Proteomics is the study of the set of proteins, designated as the Proteome, present in an organism. Sometimes a distinction is made between functional proteomics and conventional proteomics. The former restricts proteomics analysis to the subset of proteins associated with a specific function, rather than casting a wider exploratory net. The most widely used techniques to screen the proteome rely of 2D Gel elecrophoresis, and protein and peptide mass spectrometry.
