MUSC Proteomics Center
The mission of the MUSC Proteomics Center is to promote and facilitate application of proteomic analysis to research at MUSC, to provide research training in proteomics methodologies, and to advance the technologies for proteomic analysis.
The Goals of the MUSC Proteomics Center are:
- To position MUSC as one of the lead institutions in the country on this new frontier of biomedical research.
- To enhance the research and research training programs of the Medical University of South Carolina by providing the professional and facilities capabilities needed to apply proteomic analysis to research in multiple areas at MUSC.
- To promote cooperation among the various activities at MUSC relating to proteomics.
- To provide a focal point for the activities supported by the NHLBI Cardiovascular Proteomics Center contract and for future similar activities.
- To facilitate further extramural funding in proteomics and applications of proteomics in biomedical research.
- To advance the technologies of the rapidly emerging field of proteomics, including the relevant areas of bioinfomatics.
- To advance the economy of the state and region by commercialization of new technology developments in proteomics and by serving as an attractant to biomedical industry.
- To augment the MUSC Bioinformatics Program via the presence of state of the art bioinformatics as applied to proteomic analysis.
- To enhance the position of MUSC in relation to the state bioengineering initiative via interaction with the Clemson University - Medical University of South Carolina Bioengineering Program, the proposed MUSC Bioengineering Center, and the statewide initiative in bioengineering and regenerative medicine.
